Signing Ceremony Held Between The Hague Academy and the Supreme Judicial Council of the State of Qatar
The Secretary-General of The Hague Academy of International, Professor Jean-Marc Thouvenin, and the Treasurer, Ms Andrea Kramer, warmly welcomed H.E. Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, Ambassador of Qatar to the Netherlands, H.E. Judge Nasser Bin Youssef Al-Abdulghani, Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Judiciary Council of the State of Qatar, and H.E. Mr. Ferdinand Lahnstein, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Qatar, at a signing ceremony held in the Board Room of the Peace Palace, a room whose walls show the faces of the personalities who, through the ages, have made the Peace Palace the jewel that it is.
He emphasised that it is the three institutions that inhabit the Peace Palace – the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the International Court of Justice and the Academy – that make this place the centre of the world of international law. He recalled that the Academy celebrated the first centenary of its activities in 2023, and welcomed the fact that, at the beginning of its second centenary, the Supreme Judiciary Council of the State of Qatar, on the wise advice of Ambassador Al Qahtani, had requested its assistance in the design and delivery of course programmes on various topics of international law. The Secretary-General expressed his satisfaction at being able to mark the beginning of what will undoubtedly be a fruitful cooperation, and warmly thanked his hosts.
