Special Short Courses on European Union Law and Comparative Law

This Summer, for the third year in a row, the Academy will organize two special short courses on European Union Law and Comparative Law, exclusively for the attendees of the Private International Law period of the 2018 Summer Courses. The lectures of the Private International Law Courses often refer to EU Law. This can be a source of difficulty for those Academy attendees who come from non-European countries or from countries where this field of law isn’t taught. To help attendees better understand the courses of the Private International Law period, the Academy has decided to offer a short ‘crash-course’ at the start of the period on the fundamentals of European Union Law. This course is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 29th, from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In the same vein, an extra course day on Comparative Law will also be organized, focusing on the existing main legal systems of which a basic knowledge is also required to be able to follow some of the courses of the Private International Law period. This course will be held on Saturday, August 4th, from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The course on the fundamentals of European Union Law will be taught in French by Professor Catherine Schneider, coordinator of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence of Pierre Mendes France Grenoble 2 University. The course on Comparative Law is offered with the generous support of the International Academy of Comparative Law and will be taught in English by Professor Matthias Lehmann, Director of the Institute of International Private and Comparative Law of the University of Bonn. Both courses will be simultaneously translated into English and French respectively.
