The passing of H.E. Judge James Richard Crawford

The Academy is in mourning upon learning with great sadness of the passing on 31 May 2021 of H.E. James Richard Crawford, Judge at the International Court of Justice.

Judge Crawford taught a Special Course in 1997, and the General Course in 2013. Both texts have a prominent place in the Collected Courses and other Academy collections.
James was a very loyal friend of the Academy. He served as a member of the Curatorium from 1999 to 2017. He always took great interest in the Academy’s Winter and Summer Courses and regularly invited lecturers and attendees at his home in The Hague.

The Academy extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
