To celebrate its Centenary, the Academy organizes a Scientific Colloquium on 25 and 26 May 2023, for discussing the “Challenges of International Law at the Time of The Centenary of The Hague Academy of International Law”.

On 25 May, the Academy’s Distinguished Guests, most of them having given a “General Course” or a “Special Course” at the Academy, will discuss the following topics:

  • Public Interest in International Law;
  • Public Interest and Litigation;
  • Public Interest and Treaty Interpretation;
  • Humanization of Public International Law through its Rules;
  • Humanization of Public International Law in Practice;
  • Global Private International Law and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

On 26 May, the Academy’s Distinguished Guests will turn their eyes to the most recent research and studies carried out at the Academy and discuss “Contemporary Challenges for International Law”. On the bases of the last Centre Books, they will address the following questions:

  • Should and Can Global Finance be Submitted to International Law?
  • What Can we Expect from International Inspections?

  • Should and Can Extraterritoriality be contained?
  • Can Outer Space Be Res Communis?
  • Acclimating International Law with Climate Change: Toward a Global Reset?

We are proud to say that the entire event will be available online to the public. The Academy will set the procedure for accessing the broadcast in the coming weeks.
