Signing Ceremony Held Between the Japanese Embassy in the Netherlands and the Academy

The Academy was honoured to receive the Ambassador of Japan His Excellency Mr. Hiroshi Minami, Ms. Sakura Ozaki and Mr. Kazuki Goto, at a ceremony held on 13 March 2025 to formalise Japan’s support for the Academy in the form of a voluntary contribution for the year 2024.

The Secretary-General, the Head of Secretariat, and the Treasurer of the Academy welcomed the Japanese delegation in the Board Room of the Peace Palace and took this opportunity to warmly thank Ambassador Minami for the continuous support offered by the Government of Japan to the Academy, and to update him on the activities of the Academy, both the regular ones and the programmes on demand anticipated for 2025 and 2026, in The Hague, the Middle East, Vanuatu, Hong Kong, and others.

H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Minami recalled that Japan has provided steadfast support to the Academy, not only through regular voluntary contributions, the most recently in 2024, but also, among others, in sponsoring the New York Side Event of the Academy last October. He noted with pleasure that a growing number of young Japanese diplomats participate in the courses of the Academy in recent years. The Ambassador of Japan also expressed his hope that the Academy’s External Programmes would benefit the regions concerned in building capacity to address issues unique to respective regions.

The Secretary-General reiterated the importance attached by the Academy to the support received from Japan and thanked again his guest for his appreciation of the work done by the Academy.
