Third Edition of The Hague Academy of International Law’s Advanced Course in Hong Kong, organised in cooperation with the Asian Academy of International Law
The Third Edition of The Hague Academy of International Law’s Advanced Course in Hong Kong, organised in cooperation with the Asian Academy of International Law, will take place from 29 November to 5 December 2025.
For this edition, the programme will focus on ‘Economic Sanctions and International Arbitration’. The course will cover a range of issues, including the law applicable to arbitration in the context of economic sanctions, the impact of economic sanctions on contracts and bilateral investment treaty obligations, and the effect of sanctions on access to arbitral justice and public policy in international arbitration.
These advanced lectures on arbitration will be preceded by an introductory course on ‘Economic Sanctions and Public International Law’ which will take place on 29 November and will be delivered by Professor Jean-Marc Thouvenin, Secretary-General of The Hague Academy of International Law.
Participants may choose to register for this introductory course independently, without enrolling in the broader programme. Those who successfully register for the full course, including both the introductory and advanced sessions, will be granted access to an e-learning platform, where they will find reading materials provided by the professors in advance to help them prepare for the sessions.
A number of distinguished academics and practitioners from around the world will each deliver a six-hour expert course on their areas of expertise, including Professors Caroline Kleiner (University Paris Cité), Franco Ferrari (New York University), Danni Liang (Sun Yat-Sen University), Chin Leng Lim (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), and Giuditta Cordero-Moss (University of Oslo).
