Signing Ceremony held between the Academy, the Philippine Judicial Academy and the Philippine Supreme Court

During the official ceremony held on 14 March 2025, senior representatives of the Philippine Judicial Academy, the Philippine Supreme Court, and The Hague Academy of International Law gathered at the prestigious historical reading room of the Peace Palace to sign the Terms of Reference for the second Advanced Programme on International Law, developed by The Hague Academy of International Law at the request of the Philippine Judicial Academy and the Philippine Supreme Court.

Election of a new Judge at the International Court of Justice

The Academy warmly congratulates H.E. Mr Mahmoud Daifallah Hmoud on his election by the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council to serve as a judge on the International Court of Justice, succeeding Judge Nawaf Salam.

Signing Ceremony of an Agreement of Intent Held Between the Academy and Colombia

The Secretary-General of The Hague Academy of International Law, Professor Jean-Marc Thouvenin, and the Treasurer, Ms Andrea Kramer, had the honour of welcoming H.E. Mr Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Colombia's Vice-Minister for Multilateral Affairs, to the famous Reading Room of the Peace Palace Library, to formally mark their agreement in principle to the organisation of a session of international law courses in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, in March 2026.

Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, Ambassador of Qatar to the Netherlands, H.E. Judge Nasser Bin Youssef Al-Abdulghani, Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Judiciary Council of the State of Qatar, and H.E. Mr. Ferdinand Lahnstein, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Qatar.

Signing Ceremony Held Between the Japanese Embassy in the Netherlands and the Academy

The Academy was honoured to receive the Ambassador of Japan His Excellency Mr. Hiroshi Minami, Ms. Sakura Ozaki and Mr. Kazuki Goto, at a ceremony held on 13 March 2025 to formalise Japan’s support for the Academy in the form of a voluntary contribution for the year 2024.

The Academy was honoured to receive Her Excellency the Ambassador of Peru Mrs. Franca Lorella Deza Ferreccio, Ms. Sandra Rodríguez and Mr. Carlos Días, at a ceremony to formalise Peru’s support, in the form of a voluntary contribution, for the Academy’s work, held on 21 February 2025 at the Peace Palace.

Signing Ceremony Held Between the German Embassy in the Netherlands and the Academy

The Academy was honoured to receive His Excellency the German Ambassador Mr Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, as well as Mr Caspar Sieveking at a ceremony to formalise Germany's support for the Academy's work, held on 18 February 2025 at the Peace Palace.

Diploma awarded during the 2025 Winter Courses

On 24 January, at the Closing Ceremony of the 2025 Winter Courses on International Law, the Diploma of the Academy was awarded to Mr. Matei Alexianu (Romania). The Jury of the Exam consisted of Prof. Jean-Marc Thouvenin, Secretary-General of the Academy, Prof. Mónica Pinto (General Course) and Professors Maria Carmelina Londoño Lazaro and Emanuel Castellarin (Directors of Studies).

Signing Ceremony Held Between the French Embassy in the Netherlands and the Academy

At a ceremony held on 18 October 2024 at the Peace Palace, H.E. François Alabrune, Ambassador of France to the Netherlands, presented the Academy with a very substantial voluntary contribution of 75,000 euros, enabling the Academy to finance the holding of the Moot Court competition before the International Criminal Court, in partnership with the Court, as well as legal French courses, in partnership with the Alliance Française.

The Hague Academy of International Law, the Permanent Missions of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, with the kind sponsorship of the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Latvia, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Portugal, the Principality of Andorra, the Principality of Monaco, the Republic of Poland, Senegal, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, the Togolese Republic, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Uruguay and Vietnam will hold its annual “Side Event” at the UN Headquarters in New York.
